Printed Date: Thursday, March 28, 2024 Rising decibels concern pollution department, traffic police

Responding to a rising noise pollution level in the city, especially near its commercial hubs, the Regional Office of Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board, (UPPCB), Gautam Budh Nagar will conduct a decibel level check at all congested areas of the city, starting next week.

The city traffic police department too is working on containing the problem of overshooting decibels in the city. The drive by the UPPCB to record and limit decibel levels will start next week. The permissible decibel limit of any vehicle horn is between 50-60 decibels but at present it overshoots 70-80 decibels at various points.

A special check will be done of the areas where vehicle density is highest during peak hours like the sector 37 bus stop area, sector 15 crossing on Captain Vijyant Thapar Marg, the stretch along Atta market under the metro station, the bus stop at sector 15, City Centre area and the school sectors.

"We will run a check during the peak traffic areas to locate the spots where the permissible noise levels are getting violated. The exercise is expected to start soon, next week," BB Awasthi, regional officer, UPPCB said.

At the same time, the traffic police department of Gautam Budh Nagar is all set to bring a similar check in the city to contain the rising noise level of Noida residential as well as commercial hubs.

The traffic police department mentioned that it has been receiving complaints on loud honking from residential areas.

"We have executed a clamp down on honking by commercial vehicles near Sector 78 recently. We have also informed the transport department that all commercial vehicles be it trucks or school buses should get high quality horns fitted so that the decibel levels are not violated. We will push this drive further to contain noise pollution," SP Traffic, SP Traffic, Anil Jha informed.
