300 students discuss Sustainable Development in International Summit

Lotus Valley International School, Noida held a three-day summit on Sustainable Development in collaboration with “World Initiative to Save Environment (WISE)”. The programme 'Lotus Valley International School Model United Nations(LVISMUN)' concluded on Wednesday where around over 300 delegates, students and experts, representing premier schools from across the country and abroad discussed and debated the issue.

 

     

 

Michele Y Vanderlanh Smith, Administrative Officer, WHO country office for India, in her inaugural address said that India, with its resilience and resourcefulness, would lead the way for a more sustainable world. She urged the students' gathering to study and work for sustainable development and contribute to the society. 

The programme was devoted to the deliberations of sustainable development, environment safety, followed by a panel discussion where the participants reiterated the need for urgent action to save the environment. 

"We learnt a lot of things in the three-day programme. We discussed why the pollution level has increased in NCR to an alarming level. We also discussed the need to check carbon emissions and plant more and more trees," said Palak Arora, a student of Class IX.

 

 

The officials said that the aim was to instil the fundamental idea of sustainability among the youth. "Through this programme, the school strives to cultivate among students, a thirst to transform the world that they are the ultimate custodians of and empower them with the ability and the platform to carve the change that they envision," said an official. 

Dr Ruchi Seth, Lotus Valley School Principal, reaffirmed her faith in the power of the youth to find solutions for pressing global challenges. 

Delegations of students from Denmark, Germany, Spain and Italy also attended the programme. Dr Shayama Chona, Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awardee, also attended the programme and appreciated the students’ initiative.
